Products and services - certified for shipping

Baumüller offers solutions for all main and auxiliary drives in ships and, in addition to many years of experience in shipbuilding and can offer a broad range of services from project planning to global service

Baumüller DSTS Marine Motors and DC Link satisfy Lloyd's Register and DNV GL requirements.

The DST2 marine motors are available with outputs from 3 to 1150 kW and nominal speeds between 100 and 2000 min-1.
In addition to components and systems, the Baumüller Group offers project planning expertise and service concepts with a global service network and is thus a long-term partner for the entire life cycle of ship drives.

Baumüller

Baumüller has a wealth of experience in the equipping or conversion of ships and offshore vessels.

PowerMELA®

Powerful permanent-field synchronous motors

Experience and spirit of innovation combined in the mobile drives concept powerMELA® - electric power and drive tech for mobile work machines, ships and commercial vehicle.
powerMELA® is a compact drive solution for hybrid and electric vessels. The proven system is already being used in many different applications and was developed by Bumüller together with Sensor-Technik Wiedemann GmbH.
The powerMELA®-C series were developed specifically for mobile working machines, for use in both the main drive and auxiliary drives. The machines are liquid cooled and designed for 4 quadrant operation. The desired values for torque, voltage and speed control can be set over CAN bus.
In Hybrid configurations powerMELA® functions as combination of generator, motor and frequency converter. With all-electric solutions, operation is exclusively by battery current. The electric motors are connected to the on-board power supply.

  • Highest power density by additional reluctance torque and direct conductor cooling

Advantages of the powerMELA® system

Reduced maintenance effort

Reduced maintenance effort

  • Electric drives instead of hydraulic and rigid mechanical solutions

  • Electric drives with high efficiency

Fuel savings of up to 30 %

Fuel savings of up to 30 %

  • Internal combustion engine at optimum operating point

  • Operating states largely decoupled

  • High power auxiliary units electrically operated

Good EMW properties

Good EMW properties

  • Additional insulation of the stator to the housing

  • Protection class II of the drive system in the IT network

  • No additional protective covers and filter measures necessary

DST2 High Torque Propulsion motors to 1150 kW

Increased energy efficiency in ship propulsion

Hybrid drive systems have recently become a popular and efficient alternative for marine propulsion — and not only due to new legal regulations for environmental protection. Numerous advantages make the combination of a diesel engine and electric motor a profitable solution.

Certified by Lloyd's Register

Our high-torque motors' comply with the specific requirements of Lloyd's Register. Our high-torque motors can be ordered with wing mounts, allowing the feet to be diametrically arranged on the outer diameter of the motor to facilitate integration into the ship's structure.

Your benefits:

Fuel savings of up to 30 %
